Rivercity Playgroup offers three basic programs: Preschool,
Music and Movement class and Kinder-School.
Our Preschool Curriculum is based on The Creative Curriculum,
developed by Teaching Strategies Inc, used in high-quality
early childcare centers and educational settings throughout
the United States, Canada and Australia.
Each program includes circle-time, group activities,
arts and craft as well as self-directed free play time.
Through these activities and daily plans we help children
while in separation from their parents to develop their
independence, creativity, social and emotional skills,
physical skills, and cognitive skills. It is a fun program
for both native and non-native speaking children, and
as the primary language spoken is English, it is a very
effective way for children to learn English too! |

| This is an ideal way for children to get used to the
school environment before entering kindergarten. Children
learn to be independent and also learn to get involved
with friends and teachers. Our daily schedule is carefully
planned to meet children's daily rhythm. Circle-time
is a great opportunity to learn to do things together
as a group, and self-directed free play time respects
children's own interests and self-decisions. With native
English speaking teachers, they do Music & Movement,
Arts & Craft, Story Time and group games. This gives
them inspiration and a reason to be thinking and learning
in English. There is a two hour and a four hour course,
for two to three year old children. |

| In M&M class, children learn the rhythms and sounds
of English from music. It is a fifty minute class including
Arts & Craft, Story Time and Circle Time. We believe
that at this age and indeed from the age of zero, it
is invaluable to take advantage of toddler's phenomenal
memory skills. Even though they may not be able to produce
the words, they will be learning English much faster
than older children. This is an important time to lay
a good foundation for the future. One and two year old
children can participate with their mothers. |

| This class is a two hour class for ages 4 to 5 years
old. An American based learning program to acquire originality
and independence, English language, and an international
sense. This class is most suitable as a higher level
preschool class and also as a step to Kinderschool program.
It contains art & craft, music & movement, story time,
group game, role play time (such as a pretend florist
at a flower shop). This class focuses on the English
sound and phonics in a circle time which brings curiosity
to the English language. Many children from our preschool
classes take this class to brush up their skills. |

| Kinderschool is a two hour course for
ages 5 to 6 years old, and M&M Kinder class is a 50
minute course for children ages 4 to 6 years old based
on an American program. In both classes children can
experience creative activities often used in international
school environments. Kinderschool and M&M Kinder help
children grow their logical and creative thinking through
activities such as art & craft, science & math, group
game and a circle time. Through journal time, workbook,
phonics, expressing their thoughts freely, children
gain a basic knowledge of English literacy. In addition,
spending fun time with teachers and friends fosters
curiosity in English language and builds confidence,
and increases English communication skills dramatically. |

| It is a long stay program where children can spend
productive time after leaving elementary school before
going home. The afterschool classes are in our jungle
room where you find a wall mural of jungle animals.
The class open at 3:00 so children can come to the jungle
room directly from school, and between 3:00 to 4:00
you can do your homework from school or practice English
conversation with teachers and you are also welcome
to play table games with friends in the room. The carefully
planned curriculum starts from 4:00pm. It contains circle
time, art & craft, music & movement, science & math,
social study and literacy which includes reading and
writing practice as well as one to one English conversation
time with a native English teacher. If your child has
never been studying English, don't worry, we have a
bilingual Japanese teacher who can support children's
needs. If your child came from an international environment,
we can arrange a different worksheet depending on student's
ability. We make art & craft time more challenging for
this class compared to kinderschool or advanced preschool.
Children can stay with us safely until 6:00, the program's
finishing time when Moms come to pick the children up.
(Please note that Saturday after school's duration time
is for 2 hours so there is no time to do your own homework
before the curriculum starts.) |
