Rivercity has a great balance of Native English teachers from various countries and qualifications. Japanese teachers with a passion for childcare have qualifications from nursery school certificates to JETTA or J-Shine and so on. Effective communication between the Native and Japanese teachers help make the lessons run more smoothly.
Hello Everyone, my name is James. I have been teaching in Japan since 1990 and co-founded Rivercity with my wife Tamaki in 2005. We are very happy with the quality of The Creative Curriculum and know it can make a difference in the lives of children. I am always ready to meet with parents who are interested in English education. The school has developed a set of CDs which cover essential grammar, common words and phrases and is age related, and we find them a high value aid in all our classes.

She also has worked as a casting director in the media industry in Malaysia where she gained experience and skills in bringing out the best of the children. She loves keeping her classes upbeat and fun to avoid boring the students. She believes learning could be done in many ways but making it fun is a step forward to loving a certain subject for life.

Heather is originally from Maryland, but she grew up in California. She went to University of California Irvine, studying Japanese and History. She has the TOEFL and Jolly Phonics certificates and experience tutoring children to pass the EIKEN. She has been working with children for about six years now and she really enjoys dancing and singing with them. She studied American Sign Language for four years, so she liked to use Signs while teaching English to help differentiate English from Japanese. She likes to make her lessons fun for the children so that they don’t feel forced to study a new language. While they sing, dance and play games, she hopes for the children to embrace English as their second language.
Jessica is from Taiwan. She grew up in a mixture of British and American international schools. She has experience teaching English to Japanese and non native students. She enjoys working with children and love seeing them improve.
Jenny is from Nuernberg, Germany, but she grew up in an English speaking environment. She has an American Grandfather, so she was inspired to learn English for him. Jenny’s mother is a kindergarten teacher and seeing her mother at work motivated Jenny to also work with children. During her school holidays, she would volunteer at her mother’s kindergarten. After having this experience she realized that she loved to see children play, laugh and learn. All of this experience benefited her when she tutored middle school children with their language studies. She is now living here in Tokyo, enjoying her time working with the children.
